Saudi AI Enterprise HUMAIN Secures $15B Investment Pledges from AMD and Amazon
Saudi Arabia's newly launched AI enterprise, HUMAIN, has rapidly secured commitments for AI-related investments reportedly totaling around $15 billion from global technology leaders AMD and Amazon Web Services (AWS). These strategic partnerships are set to build out massive AI infrastructure and capabilities, positioning the Kingdom as a significant player in the global AI landscape.
HUMAIN Launched to Spearhead Saudi AI Ambitions
Unveiled under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), HUMAIN is a PIF-owned company established to operate and invest across the entire artificial intelligence value chain. With Tareq Amin as its CEO, HUMAIN aims to deliver comprehensive AI services, products, and tools, including next-generation data centers, advanced AI models (with a strong focus on Arabic Large Language Models - LLMs), and cloud capabilities, supporting Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
AMD Commits $10B for AI Infrastructure Development
As part of these new initiatives, AMD and HUMAIN announced a strategic collaboration involving an investment of up to $10 billion. This partnership will focus on building AI infrastructure, aiming to deploy 500 megawatts (MW) of AI compute capacity over the next five years in both Saudi Arabia and the US. HUMAIN will oversee the end-to-end delivery, including hyperscale data centers and connectivity, while AMD will provide its full spectrum of AI compute portfolio, including Instinct™ GPUs, EPYC™ CPUs, Pensando™ DPUs, and the ROCm™ open software ecosystem. This joint effort is geared towards creating an "AI superstructure" that is open, scalable, and optimized for diverse AI workloads.
AWS to Invest Over $5B in "AI Zone" with HUMAIN
In a parallel major development, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and HUMAIN announced plans to invest over $5 billion to establish a pioneering "AI Zone" in Saudi Arabia. This zone is expected to feature dedicated AWS AI infrastructure, including advanced servers, semiconductors, and UltraCluster networks for high-speed AI training and inference. It will also leverage AWS services like SageMaker, Bedrock, and Amazon Q. The collaboration aims to spur the growth of LLMs, including Arabic versions (ALLaM), develop a unified AI agent marketplace for government use, and significantly accelerate AI adoption across key sectors like energy, healthcare, and education in the Gulf region and beyond. This initiative builds upon AWS's existing $5.3 billion investment for a new AWS infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia, set to launch by 2026. AWS also plans to train 100,000 Saudis in cloud and AI skills.
Strategic Vision: A Global AI Hub Aligned with Vision 2030
These large-scale investments and partnerships are central to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and establish the Kingdom as a global leader in technology and AI. By democratizing access to advanced AI compute and fostering both local innovation and international collaborations, HUMAIN and its partners intend to create a comprehensive AI ecosystem.
